45 Christmas Decor Ideas for Living Room
Christmas is the coziest and comfiest holiday, and I think that the whole house should be decorated for Christmas,
not only the rooms where you invite your guests or have a meal with your family.
Bedrooms shouldn’t be forgotten! To feel the Christmas spirit from the moment of waking up, you need to decorate your bedroom.
1. Decorate the Christmas tree
The Christmas tree is the main focal point of the room, so start with that. You can use a faux tree or a real one.
I love the look and smell of a real tree, but I’ve been using a faux tree for the past few years.
I love the convenience of it and that I can put it up before Thanksgiving.
This year, I used a 9-foot flocked tree and decorated it with a mix of ornaments in blush, white, and gold.
I also added some picks and ribbon to give it some extra texture. I’ll be sharing a full tree tour later this week, so stay tuned for that!
2. Add Christmas garlands to the fireplace
If you have a fireplace in your living room, you can use the mantel as a place to decorate for Christmas.
I added a flocked garland to the mantel and then wove in some battery-operated twinkle lights.
Then I added some white and gold houses and trees to the mantel, as well as some candlesticks.
I like to use candles that are on a timer so they come on and go off the same time each day.
I also added a flocked garland to the top of the picture frame on the mantel and wove in some twinkle lights there as well.
I love the way the lights are reflected off the mirror.
I also added some flocked garland and twinkle lights to the top of the bookshelves on either side of the fireplace.
I added some Christmas florals to the garland and then wove in some twinkle lights.
I also added some Christmas florals and twinkle lights to the garland on the coffee table.
3. Add a Christmas wreath to the wall
Wreaths are not just for the front door! You can hang them anywhere in your home, including the living room.
I found this beautiful pre-lit wreath at Walmart. It has battery-operated lights and a timer, so you can set it to come on at the same time every day.
This wreath is so full and pretty, so I didn’t want to take away from it with a lot of other decorations.
I simply added a few ornaments and some ribbon to give it a little extra sparkle.
After the holidays, I will remove the ornaments and ribbon and hang the wreath in my master bedroom. I love that it is so versatile!
4. Add Christmas throw pillows
If you don’t want to completely change out your pillows, you can simply add some Christmas ones on top of your existing pillows.
This is a great way to add some festive touches without having to store a bunch of pillows the rest of the year.
I like to add my Christmas pillows on top of my neutral colored pillows to help them stand out a bit.
5. Add Christmas figurines to the mantel
If you have a mantel, it’s the perfect spot to decorate for Christmas. I love using a garland as a base and then layering on the Christmas decorations.
This year I added a few trees, a church, and a caroler. I also added a few trees to the hearth to finish the look.
6. Add Christmas decorations to the coffee table
If you have a coffee table in your living room, it’s the perfect spot to add a little Christmas magic.
I like to keep it pretty simple so we still have room for drinks and snacks, but you can decorate your coffee table however you like.
This year I added a small Christmas tree, a few candles, and a little bowl of ornaments.
I also added a few small Christmas trees to the rest of the room to tie everything together.
7. Add a Christmas village to the sideboard
Christmas villages are a classic holiday decoration, and they can fit in beautifully with a more modern decor style.
I love the sweet little village on this sideboard, and the addition of the trees adds a pop of color to the mix.
This is a lovely way to create a cozy, festive scene in your living room.
The addition of the village helps to fill in the space around the TV, and the addition of the trees helps to draw the eye up.
8. Add a Christmas rug
If you’re not sure how to bring the festive vibes to the floor in your living room, a Christmas rug is an easy solution!
You can add a Christmas rug right on top of your existing rug or use it to add some holiday cheer to a bare floor.
I love how this plaid rug brings the Christmas vibes to the room and ties in the reds and greens from the garland and stockings.
9. Add Christmas lights to the living room
If you don’t have a fireplace, you can still add a cozy glow to your living room with Christmas lights.
Drape them around the room, or add them to a basket or lantern to create a cozy, glowing vignette.
You can also add a lighted garland to your mantel, or use it as a centerpiece on your coffee table.
