26 Christmas Dining Table Decor Ideas
Are you looking for Christmas dining table decor ideas?
There are so many different styles to choose from! You can go with a classic red and green theme,
a more modern black and white look, or something completely different.
There are also lots of different ways to decorate your table. You can use a table runner, placemats, a tablecloth, or nothing at all.
You can use chargers, a table centerpiece, or both. You can use cloth napkins, paper napkins, or something in between.
You can use glassware, flatware, and dishes in different colors and patterns. You can use candles, ornaments, and garlands.
You can even use fruit, candy, or gingerbread houses. And you can use all of these things together or just pick a few!
1. Go for a rustic look
If you want to create a warm, cozy Christmas dining table, then you really can’t go wrong with a rustic look.
I used a buffalo check table runner and then layered a white tablecloth on top of it.
You don’t have to use a table runner with a tablecloth, but I think it adds a little something extra.
I didn’t even iron the tablecloth (haha!) but I still think it looks nice.
I used a few simple, rustic Christmas decorations to fill the center of the table.
I love the look of the Christmas houses, trees, and deer. I also used my favorite gold candlesticks and some white candles.
2. Use fresh flowers
Flowers are a great way to add a pop of color to your tablescape.
If you’re not a fan of traditional Christmas colors, you can use flowers to add a more muted color palette to your table.
I used eucalyptus and white roses for this tablescape.
You can also use white hydrangeas, red roses, or even pink peonies for a more subtle take on Christmas flowers.
3. Make the most of your chandelier
If you have a chandelier over your table, then this is the perfect opportunity to get creative with your festive decor.
I love the way that the team at 2 Ladies and a Chair have used a simple greenery garland to add a little Christmas cheer to their lighting.
By keeping the garland simple and not too fussy, it doesn’t compete with the beautiful light fixture but instead just adds a little sparkle to the room.
4. Add a little glam
Glamorous golds and silvers are a beautiful way to dress up a Christmas table. I love the way that the silver plates and gold chargers look together.
If your family is anything like mine, then you might have a few different sets of Christmas dishes. This is a great way to mix and match them!
5. Bring in some color
If you are more of a neutral lover and the traditional reds and greens just aren’t your thing then try bringing in some of your go-to colors in a festive way.
Here I added a little bit of blush, some burnt orange and a few pops of green to my neutral table.
I also love how the colors of the ornaments in the chandelier match the colors on the table.
6. Keep it simple
This last table is a great example of how you can create a beautiful, festive look without going over the top.
The table is simple and minimal, but the addition of the greenery and the candles give it a lovely, Christmassy feel.
We love the little sprig of eucalyptus on the napkin too, such a simple touch that adds just the right amount of color.
7. Use what you have
Finally, the best way to decorate your dining table for Christmas is to use what you already have.
I started with the white linen tablecloth and the greenery that I use for every season.
Then I added in the black and white buffalo check and the brass candlesticks that I already had.
By adding in the red and white, I gave it a festive Christmas feel, but I didn’t have to buy anything new.
8. Make it kid-friendly
If you have little ones at the table, you may want to keep things a bit more casual and fun.
I set this table with a red and white gingham tablecloth and added in the cutest gingerbread house plates and cups.
I love the way the gingerbread house plates look with the white plates and the red and white gingham.
I also added in some little gingerbread house ornaments to the table. I love how it all came together!
9. Add some sparkle
Add a touch of sparkle to your dining table with some metallic accents.
We love the combination of gold and black in this Christmas table decor — the gold adds some festive shimmer and
the black keeps it from feeling too over the top.
If you already have a centerpiece you love, you can still add some sparkle to your table.
Just scatter some metallic votives or candlesticks along the center of your table.
10. Get creative
If there’s one time of the year to really let your creativity shine, it’s Christmas.
Don’t be afraid to think outside the box and create a unique tablescape that feels totally you.
This colorful and whimsical Christmas dining table decor is a great example.
The designer used a rainbow of pastel colors and mixed in some fun, unexpected elements like colorful tinsel, candy, and even a few balloons.
The result is a fun and festive tablescape that feels totally unique.
11. Remember to decorate the chairs
Don’t forget about the chairs! They are the perfect spot to add some extra Christmas cheer.
I added a simple faux cedar swag to the back of each chair and then tied it with a ribbon. It’s such an easy way to add a festive touch to the chairs.
If you have a larger dining room, you could add a swag to the back of each chair. Or you could even add a bow or a name tag to each chair.
The possibilities are endless!
Conclusion
There are many ways to decorate your dining room table for Christmas. From the classic red and green with white snowflakes to a more modern look with hints of gold and silver. No matter your style, you can find a way to make your Christmas table decor unique to you.
