49 Pottery Barn Inspired Living Room Ideas
I have a confession to make. I love Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn inspired decor, and even Pottery Barn knock-off decor.
I was browsing through their website the other day and came across a living room that I just fell in love with.
I decided to see if I could create the same look for a lot less money. I was able to put everything together for just over $2,000.
1. Get the Pottery Barn Look with a Neutral Color Palette
I’ve always been a big fan of neutral colors in home decor, and Pottery Barn does this so well.
I also love that they bring in a lot of natural textures and materials to give a room dimension and warmth.
In this living room design, I brought in a lot of white, cream, and beige tones.
I added in a little black for contrast and some soft blues to give the room a pop of color.
The rug and the curtains are the two main places I brought in the blue color, and
I love how it looks! You can also bring in a pop of color with throw pillows, art, or even a vase of flowers.
2. Choose a Focal Point for Your Room
Every room needs a focal point, and for a living room, it’s usually the fireplace, a statement wall, or the TV.
In this case, the TV is the focal point, so I flanked it with two bookshelves, which adds height and interest to the room.
3. Mix and Match Furniture to Create a Cohesive Look
I love the look of a matching furniture set, but I also love the look of a room that doesn’t look like you bought the entire thing in one day.
I found the perfect sofa and loveseat, but the rest of the furniture in the room is a mix of pieces that I’ve collected over time.
I think the end result is a room that feels lived in and collected (even though I bought everything new) and not like I just bought the entire room from a catalog.
4. Add Texture to Your Room
Adding texture is a great way to bring warmth and depth to your space. You can do this with your furniture, decor, and textiles.
In this living room, we have a variety of textures in the rug, pillows, and throw blanket.
The wood coffee table and side table add warmth and texture to the room.
The velvet pillows, ceramic vase, and woven throw blanket add softness and visual interest to the space.
5. Add Greenery to Your Room
I’m sure you’ve noticed by now, but I love adding greenery to my spaces.
Whether it’s a large fiddle leaf fig tree or a small potted plant, greenery adds so much life to a room.
I’ve always loved a good olive tree, so I added one to this corner of the room. I love how the gray-green leaves look against the light and airy color palette.
If you don’t have a green thumb, you can always use faux plants. There are so many great faux options out there, and you can’t even tell that they’re not real.
6. Create a Cozy Ambiance with Candles
Candles are a must-have for any Pottery Barn inspired room! When we were visiting my in-laws over the holidays,
I noticed that my mother-in-law had a candle burning in the living room almost every evening. It made the room feel so warm and inviting!
I’ve been lighting a candle in our living room every evening, and it’s amazing how much it helps me to relax and unwind.
I also love that it fills the room with a nice scent! I’m currently burning the Vanilla Birch candle from Pottery Barn, and it smells amazing!
7. Hang a Statement Mirror
If you’ve been around here for any amount of time, you know I love a good statement mirror.
A mirror can do so much for a space, and in this case, it helps to break up the wall of windows.
This particular mirror is from Pottery Barn and is a great way to add a touch of glam to a room.
The beveled edges and geometric shape are so pretty, and the gold finish is a nice contrast to the blue curtains.
8. Add Personal Touches to Your Room
I love to add personal touches to a room to make it feel more like home.
This can be anything from a favorite family photo, a sentimental piece of art, or a piece of furniture that has been handed down through the generations.
In this room, the homeowner had a collection of old books that had been passed down through the family.
I used them to add a pop of color to the coffee table and also to add some height to the side table.
I love how these simple touches make the room feel more personal.
